The 2D/3D series from Elizabeth Cox explores implications of new technology with humor and curiosity, wrestling with topics ranging from AI to kidney donors.
Should We Studio, the independent production company dedicated to projects that consider humanity's most consequential issues, has debuted an episode of its Ada series on the TED-Ed YouTube Channel.
From the eradication of mosquitoes to developing artificial wombs, the five-episode animated series from Elizabeth Cox, CEO of Should We Studio, explores the ethical and social implications of new technologies with humor, vibrant settings, and, above all, a willingness to engage with the weird. Each episode features two visually distinct worlds: Ada’s reality and the future she imagines. Each episode’s imagined future showcases new environments, color palettes, textures, and character designs that reflect the episode’s topic.
In the episode Would You Sell Your Kidney for $100,000?, Ada imagines how society would change if governments paid living organ donors, which begs the question: “Should we receive compensation for our organs?”
Ada previously won Best Animated Series at the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology and the Raw Science Film Festival.
