John Cena also stars in the live-action film from Skydance, Apple Original Films, and Mattel Films, inspired by Mattel’s real-world die-cast toy vehicle line, invented in 1953 by Jack Odell.
Sam Richardson (Veep, Ted Lasso) and Teyonah Parris (The Marvels, They Cloned Tyrone) have boarded the upcoming live-action feature Matchbox, from Skydance, Apple Original Films, and Mattel Films. John Cena (Jackpot!, Ricky Stanicky) also stars.
Sam Hargrave (Extraction, Extraction II) directs from a screenplay by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan, Orphan: First Kill) and Jonathan Tropper (The Adam Project, Warrior).
The film is inspired by Mattel’s real-world die-cast toy vehicle line, invented in 1953 by Jack Odell to solve a challenge for his daughter, who was allowed to take a toy to school only if it could fit in a matchbox. Potential plot details remain under wraps.
Matchbox will be produced by Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger for Skydance, and Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films.
