Nominations for the 54th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on July 18, 2002 and the Fox network ruled the Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming Less Than One Hour) category with all three of its popular prime-time sitcoms FUTURAMA, THE SIMPSONS and KING OF THE HILL nabbing noms. They were joined by Comedy Central's SOUTH PARK and Nickelodeon's AS TOLD BY GINGER. Cartoon Network's SAMURAI JACK is up against Discovery Channel's dinosaur specials: WALKING WITH PREHISTORIC BEASTS and WHEN DINOSAURS ROAMED AMERICA in the Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming One Hour Or More) category. WALKING WITH PREHISTORIC BEASTS also picked up a nom in the Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special category, along with that other dinosaur epic DINOTOPIA. Awards for the majority of animation and visual effects categories will be presented on Saturday, September 14, 2002 at the Shrine Auditorium, in a non-televised ceremony.
