Three-week artist residency hosted by The Animation Workshop to be held September 11-29 in Viborg, Denmark.
In September 2017, The Animation Workshop/VIA University College - Scandinavia’s leading center for animation, visualization, and graphic storytelling - will gather acknowledged tutors to supervise the Nippon- Nordic participants. Their goal will be to develop concepts such as universes, story worlds and paper-proto- types, which resonate across both countries and beyond; and which can be utilized in video or mobile games, animation TV series, documentaries, serious games, VR, AR or transmedia.
The participants are selected by a committee based on their proposed projects and will be:
- junior or intermediate artists with a background as directors, new media concept artists, writers, storyboard artists or game designers
- and who are Japanese (living in Japan or abroad), Korean or Chinese (special permanent residents in Japan), Danish (living either in Denmark or abroad) or foreigners (currently living or running a company in Denmark).
On the last day of the residency, during the Viborg Animation Festival (VAF), the participants will get the opportunity to pitch their concepts to a jury of high-level professionals from both territories who will also advise them on how to best reach the market and go into production. The best projects will get the chance to take their development through additional residencies and to access pitching sessions in major festivals and partner-events throughout Europe and Asia (such as Annecy MIFA Pitches, Sunny Side of the Doc, Cartoon Connection Asia, Japan Content Showcase, etc).
The NipponNordic Universe Accelerator is a part of the big event Kawaii & Epikku: The largest show in Denmark about anime, manga and transmedia content. The Animation Workshop will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the establishment of Japanese & Danish diplomatic relations with screenings, meetings, conferences, exhibitions, work- shops and public events that are endorsed by the Japanese Embassy in Denmark.
