Netflix Reveals ‘Spriggan’ Teaser Trailer and Images

Based on the popular 1990’s manga ‘Spriggan’ published in the ‘Weekly Shonen Sunday,’ the Netflix Original Anime Series hits the streamer in 2022.

Netflix has dropped a teaser trailer and slew of images (see below) for the new 2D anime series, Spriggan, coming in 2022. The show is based on “Spriggan” manga (written by Hiroshi Takashige and illustrated by Ryoji Minagawa), published in the “Weekly Shonen Sunday” by Shogakukan from 1989 to 1996, which sold over 10 million copies in the 1990’s and was made into a 1998 film.

Spriggan tells the story of Yu Ominae, a young man who serves as a “Spriggan,” a special agent of the ARCAM corporation, an organization established to seal away the relics of an ancient civilization.

A great civilization once existed on Earth. Possessing knowledge and scientific prowess far exceeding that of modern man, relics of this ancient civilization remain hidden across this world even now. As high-speed communications networks cover the globe and the peering eyes of satellites can expose all secrets, the armies of great nations clash as they seek to uncover and research these artifacts, which possess an unfathomable “power.” A member of this ancient civilization carved a message into a plate: “Protect our legacy from evildoers.” Taking this message to heart, one organization aims to seal away this ancient civilization for good. The elite secret agents of this organization are known as... Spriggans.

Directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi (Dragon Pilot and Kiznaiver), Hiroshi Seko (Jujutsu Kaisen and Banana Fish) leads the screenplay and series composition with character designer and supervising animation director Shuhei Handa (Little Witch Academia). JNTHED will lead production design, Norihito Ishii will serve as CG director, Osamu Mikasa will head color design, Yuji Kaneko will serve as art director, and Yosuke Motoki will serve as director of photography. The series is produced by david production.
