Nelvana Inks Deal For Three Series With Cartoon Network Latin America

Nelvana Enterprises is pleased to announce that it has sold three new comedy series to Cartoon Network Latin America.

Press Release from Nelvana Enterprises

(September 26, 2011 – Toronto, Canada) – Nelvana Enterprises is pleased to announce that it has sold three new comedy series to Cartoon Network Latin America.  The shows are the live-action series Mr. Young, as well as the animated productions Sidekick and Scaredy Squirrel.  They will be seen across Latin America and the Caribbean starting with Sidekick this October, and Mr. Young and Scaredy Squirrel premiering in 2012.

“We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Cartoon Network to bring Latin American viewers our hilarious new slate of comedies,” said Jerry Diaz, Vice-President, Worldwide Sales, Nelvana Enterprises. “We are confident that these series will be as popular in Latin America as they are already in Canada, the U.S. and beyond.”

Both Sidekick and Scaredy Squirrel currently air on Cartoon Network in the U.S.

Mr. Young is filmed in front of a live studio audience and stars Brendan Meyer as Adam Young, a whiz-kid-turned-teen genius who hit the books hard enough to get into university at the age of 9.  Now, at the tender age of 14, he’s headed back to high school – as a teacher. Being the same age as his students, Adam finds himself trapped between two worlds, often leading to hilarious consequences. The series is produced by Thunderbird Films in association with Corus Entertainment Inc.’s YTV, where the show has quickly become one of the network’s top-rated series. Nelvana Enterprises is the international distribution agent for Mr. Young, while Nelvana and Thunderbird are co-distributing the series in the United States.

Sidekick features Eric and Trevor in their not-so-heroic adventures training to be superhero sidekicks.  With access to a grand mansion stocked with gadgets, these sidekicks get their fair share of action battling the bad guys.  Now only if those super-powers would finally kick in.  Fun, physical and full of your favorite comic book references.

Scaredy Squirrel is based on the popular book series by Canadian author Mélanie Watt, published by Kids Can Press, featuring an endearingly obsessive-compulsive hero.  Scaredy lives in Balsa City and has the perfect job for a creative squirrel with a touch of OCD:  stacking cans into elaborate displays at the Stash n’ Hoard grocery store.  In his spare time, he is a huge paddleball fan and dreams of becoming the best paddler ever.  At first glance, Scaredy may seem geeky and quirky, but he’s actually one cool confident squirrel.  Comfortable in his fur, he makes no apologies for his idiosyncrasies and quirks, and that makes him totally awesome!
