Jon Favreau will direct Lucasfilm’s first cinematic offering based on the hit Disney+ series 'The Mandalorian;' scheduled to enter production later this year, the film is being produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni.
Hot off the presses… as first announced on starwars.com, “this is the way” now means follow me to the theater. The Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu are teaming up on a new adventure… to cinemas worldwide, in the sci-fi adventure, The Mandalorian & Grogu. The film, directed by Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni, is scheduled to begin production later this year.
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau shared. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, added, “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.”
The Mandalorian & Grogu join Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate, which includes films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing Ahsoka Season 2, among those in the works.
