New York City-based auction house Swann Auction Galleries will spotlight a wide variety of Disney cartoons and drawings during its sale of 20th Century Illustration on January 24, 2013.
Among the highlights is an original 3-tiered Mickey Mouse Sunday comic strip from 1950, at an estimated value of $3,500 – $5,000. The margin includes production notes and pencil and studio rubberstamps.
Also included in the sale are 1937 animation drawings from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, estimated between $400 – $1,200.
In addition, the sale will feature a large collection of works from the late author Maurice Sendak, including photographs, drawings, children’s toys, inscriptions, and other ephemera. Illustrations by Dr. Seuss, Beatrix Potter, Edward Gorey, Charles Schulz, Al Hirschfeld, Hilary Knight (Eloise), and Garth Williams (the Laura Ingalls Wilder novels, Charlotte’s Web, Stuart Little), among others, will also be available, as well as illustrations from titles such as The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
