Columbia Pictures’ Centennial Logo Debuts with ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Re-Release

Studio celebrates 100-year legacy with theatrical release of Sony Pictures Animation’s highest-grossing film, coming to theaters January 19.

Columbia Pictures is celebrating its 100-year legacy with the theatrical re-release of its box office hit animated feature Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which heads back to theaters on January 19, 2024, exclusively in IMAX and premium large formats. The re-release will hit 400 locations across the U.S. and Canada and debut the studio’s new animated centennial logo.

The logo incorporates the eight iterations of the timeless Columbia Pictures female form that began with the image of a woman Roman soldier holding a shield in her left hand and a stick of wheat in her right hand to become the historic “Lady with the Torch” iconography.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse accolades include the Hollywood Critics Association Astra Award and National Board of Review Honor for Best Animated Film, and nominations for Golden Globes, Producers Guild Awards, Annie Awards, Visual Effects Society Awards and People’s Choice Awards.

According to the studio, since making its theatrical debut in June 2023, Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse earned $120.65 million in North America during its first weekend. After generating $381.31 million, it became the third highest-grossing film domestically in 2023. The film stands at $690.61 million globally, making it Sony Pictures Animation’s highest-grossing film ever.

Since 1934, after Frank Capra’s classic, It Happened One Night swept the Oscars, Columbia Pictures has earned its iconic spot and entertained audiences for decades. It has produced the highest number of Academy Award Best Pictures wins, including From Here to Eternity, On the Waterfront, Lawrence of Arabia, Kramer Vs Kramer, Ghandhi, and The Last Emperor.
