Classic Creatures Come Alive for Universal

Universal Pictures has purchased the film rights to Larry Doyle's novel GO MUTANTS!, per VARIETY. Doyle is set to write the script and Imagine Ent.'s Brian Grazer will produce.

A teen comedy set in a high school, GO MUTANTS! imagines if all the classic 1950s alien invasion movies came true, and years later, the children of the mutant creatures have assimilated into the school's population.

Expect Gort from THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and the Creature from the Black Lagoon to make cameos. Doyle will finish the novel this summer while working on the script simultaneously. Universal and Imagine bought the project based on an outline. The novel will be released by HarperCollins next summer.

Exec producers are William Horberg and Imagine's David Bernardi.
