The Good Dinosaur was a big hit at this year’s D23 Expo, but attendees did not get a chance to hear about the film from director Bob Person. Instead, co-director Peter Sohn and producer Denise Ream announced the voice cast for the upcoming animated feature from Pixar due in theaters May 30, 2014.
Now, the Blue Sky Disney blog reports that Peterson and producer John Walker may have been kicked off of the project following story problems.
Directorial changes have become an increasingly common trend for the studio with highly publicized shifts for Cars 2 and Brave, so it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if the same thing happens to The Good Dinosaur.
The Good Dinosaur asks the generations-old question: What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? The film is a humorous and exciting original story about Arlo, a lively 70-foot-tall teenage Apatosaurus with a big heart. After a traumatic event rattles Arlo’s tranquil community, he sets out on a quest to restore peace, gaining an unlikely companion along the way—a young human boy named Spot.
Cast members include Lucas Neff as the voice of Arlo; Bill Hader, voice of Forrest; Judy Greer, voice of Ivy; Neil Patrick Harris, voice of Cliff; John Lithgow, voice of Poppa; and Frances McDormand, voice of Momma.
Whether this will affect the film’s release date has yet to be seen, but if the rumors are true, expect an official statement in the near future.
