The British Academy of Film & Television Arts has announced the winners of its third annual interactive entertainment awards. Lego & Steven Spielberg Moviemaker Set, which gives kids a virtual production studio in a box, took home two prizes in the learning and childrens categories. Cartoon Network U.K. Online won the entertainment Website award over Netherlands-based toon site ExtraTainment.com. For best mobile or networked game, POKEMON YELLOW (Nintendo) for Gameboy beat out CHUCHU ROCKET (developer Sonic Team, publisher Sega U.K.) for DreamCast and MERCHANT PRINCES (Ngame Ltd.) for WAP. For the PC game award, DEUS EX (developer Ion Storm, publisher Eidios Interactive) defeated GROUND CONTROL (developer Massive Ent., publisher Sierra Studios) and SHOGUN TOTAL WAR (developer Creative Assembly, publisher Dreamtime Interactive and Electronic Arts) to win the statuette. In the tough console category, BAFTA gave the prize to MEDIEVIL II (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe) for PlayStation, beating other nominees READY 2 RUMBLE BOXING: ROUND 2 (Midway Games Ltd.) for PlayStation 2 and TIMESPLITTERS (developer Free Radical Design, publisher Eidios Interactive) for PlayStation 2. In the moving image category, the N64 game PERFECT DARK (developer Rare, publisher Nintendo) received the top honors. THEME PARK WORLD (developer Bullfrog Prod., publisher Electronic Arts) for PC took home the sound acknowledgment and IMPERIUM GALACTICA II (developer Digital Reality, publisher GT Interactive) grabbed the music award. The awards were handed out at a London ceremony on Thursday, October 26, 2000.
