The harder part for me is taking on the mantle of producer. I am so stigmatized by knowing only a few good ones that I had a fear of becoming one of them.
But as I get farther in its not so bad. :)
What do you folks think of putting on the producer hat for your own "Opus"?

I was thinking that I see lots and lots of creators showing up at panels, but the one I saw that was really inspiring was the guy from JibJab who now works out here in the LA area. Evan Spiridellis. Family Business...just bopping along...half a dozen people or 3...including wife and brother, and occasional contract people.
I guess his is one of those stories where they do what they love and so far its worked out.
My concern is less about vision or appeal, but about money and resources.
I have done prettu good so far, but I wonder if I should get some small business education to go with the management and leadership stuff I already have.
Or maybe I should be kept away from the internet in the middle of a render. ;)

i think its about finding a mix between the management, marketing and production side of things.
i havent been a producer that long (June 2004) working on shorts for a while. begining a 11minsx26 series in June-July.
its a small team. 6 full time - 3 contract players. hoping to move into double digit animator numbers by December.
im enjoying it immenesely. i get to wear a lot of hats, solve a lot of problems, sleep less than 6 hours a day.
whats not to like.
:)
i wish someday we can have a conference of just small-medium sized indy animation producers.
that would be a learning experience .
:)
Funny that you should mention that, because we're thinking about hosting a panel to that very end. :D
Stay tuned...

i would love to be part of something like that.
even if it means breaking into a bank to find funding
:)
That's be worth another trip to LA for a co-op meeting!

There's a little biker in all of us...
Very cool! You might want to take a look at the CartoonMovie here in Europe. It's not indy, but places co-productions at the heart of its activities and the result is a great market place and cooperative spirit...
