Santa?

I know Harvey has a problem with Christmas threads, but right now this is bothering me. Why doesn't Santa have a pet? All these Christmas specials, he has a wife, daughters, sons, and elves etc. but never any mention of a dog, cat, parrot, or cavy...how come? Wouldn't you think with all the time off he has that he would want a pet to cozy up with in front of the fire up there at the North Pole.

I am working up an idea for an upcoming project, probably won't get it finished until next year, but what's with Santa, is he an animal hater????

Shouldn't you guys be making Flash Christmas cards right about now instead of all this fluff about a pet? Hey, why don't you post your card with the pet and we can decide on the best one?

The jolly old saint is a commercial invention? Nah, Santa just happens to be one of the earliest (and well known) victim of identity theft.

*If I remember correctly, there is a Russian myth that has Saint Nick traveling with a white wolf.

At least he doesn't wear a cowboy hat and walk like he has a fungus. But Sadam's hair is too dark...he wouldn't pass in the long run.

people keep horses as pets and ya can't snuggle them.

Don't do nothing because you can't do everything.

If Santa has a white wolf, would he have Kiba or Moro? ;)

Why not White Fang?

Can't you just imagine him wearing a red stocking cap?

Would you not consider his 8 reindeer his pets??? I mean, if the Chinese can keep crickets as pets, why can't the fat Inuit bugger have deer for pets? ;)

Maybe the reindeer are, but I always thought of them more as employees in the grand scheme of things. Never pictured Santa with a reindeer cuddled up in his lap in front of the fire.

In one of those Rankin/Bass Christmas specials he had a penguin companion.

I don't have a problem with Christmas threads, you big silly. I just feel that they can all be neatly consolitated into one thread like we try to do for other topics. That keeps the forum less messy, the topic more deep and interesting, and reduces the number of non-animation topics.

And as for this inane topic of why Santa doesn't have pets, Santa is what you make him. He is after all a commercial invention so if you want him to have pets, give him pets. How about a nice giraffe to start off with.

nah a giraffe won't work ...
too hard to market...
lemmessee.. how about a toucan( cool tie in for marshmallow cereals!), maybe a lion... chocolate candy bars, a polar bear, ..but that may be to obvious of a tie in with that bubbly drink that spun mister red santa claus..

maybe he should have another friend who would wield a broom and hit the bad kids???but that wouldn't be a pet would it??

It's funny to see how a myth evolves through the ages...and how we forget where it comes from...

I think a sheep is probably the way to go since there were supposedly sheep hanging out when Jesus was born: sheep and asses.

The other option is to find an animal that's red and green in color: probably a reptile or amphibian of some type. And Santa should also keep fireflies as pets since they look kind of Christmassy.

oooooooooooooooooooohh...fireflys!!!
that's a cool idea...

Hu.. Why the relation with jesus's birth??
i thought he was actually born in January..a nd that's when the three kings got there???

Am i missing something?

According to historical documents, Jesus was actually born 2 months after Santa, although 3 months prior to the birth of the Easter Bunny. Archeological records also reveal that Bugs Bunny played the Easter Bunny on a very special episode of Suddenly Susan.

And by the way - all kidding aside - the perfect pet for Santa is obviously a white wolf. :p

Harvey you have a real stick up your butt...don't you. That's fine, by the time I have my concept together maybe the media companies will be open to the idea.

Tsk tsk, phacker. It is the holiday season, after all: the time of year when we're supposed to be kind to one another, and all you can think about is cashing in on your Santa-pet idea.
Shame on you, phacker. Shame shame shame :(

P.S. Don't steal my white wolf Santa pet idea.
