Shorts!: 2008 Academy Shorts Screening

In 1997 the Academy presented its first "Shorts!" program in the spring, following that year's Academy Awards ceremony. The event sold out every year thereafter, as audiences embraced the opportunity not only to see the nominees and winners in the Animated and Live-Action Short Film categories, but also to hear from some of the filmmakers.

To kick off Oscar Week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present "Shorts!," a program featuring the 2007 Academy Award-nominated films in the Animated and Live Action Short Film categories, on Tuesday, February 19, at 7:00 pm at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The program will feature onstage discussions with the nominated filmmakers (subject to availability).

Gnomon Hosts Compositing Workshop

50th Anniversary Sinbad Exhibit & Screening

On Sunday, Feb. 17 at Santa Monica's Aero Theatre, special effects master Ray Harryhausen will be joined by a trio of today's screen magicians for a live commentary on Harryhausen's masterpiece,THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, celebrating its 50th anniversary. Joining the 87-year-old film legend will be Oscar winners Dennis Muren (STAR WARS), Phil Tippett (STARSHIP TROOPERS) and Randall William Cook (LORD OF THE RINGS) -- along with Steven C. Smith, biographer of the film's composer, Bernard Herrmann. Harryhausen authority Arnold Kunert will moderate this unique event.

Diary of the Dead Sneak Preview

The American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre presents a sneak preview of DIARY OF THE DEAD, directed by George Romero (DAWN OF THE DEAD). The 7:30 pm screening will feature horror legend Romero in person. In the new movie, a group of young film students run into real-life zombies while filming a horror movie of their own. The Museum of the Moving Image and Stash DVD Magazine present the premiere U.S. screening of Best of Stash 2007.
