SF360 FILM+CLUB presents Carson Mell: Dispatches from Dimension X

The San Francisco Film Society's SF360 Film+Club, a monthly social screening series, returns on Thursday, August 28, at 7:30 pm at Mezzanine (444 Jessie Street at Mint) with Carson Mell: Dispatches from Dimension X with up-and-coming animator Carson Mell in person.

Take equal parts country-rock star, science-fiction writer, undersexed adolescent and uncomfortable malcontent and you merely crack the door leading to Mell's creative world. Mell will be in person to present his animations and music videos and read from his recently completed illustrated novel SAGUARO. The novel chronicles the life and times of ex-rock star Bobby Bird, the fictional protagonist of a few of Mell's short films. All of the characters in Mell's animations are voiced by Mell himself, and from Bobby Bird's mouth fall some of the best lines around. In CHONTO, which tells of the story surrounding Bird's adoption of a monkey from a South American zoo, Bird recounts, "Sometimes a man needs a dog. Of course, being a big shot, I decide I need a big shot dog. I need a monkey."

Doors open at Mezzanine at 7 p.m., program starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door or $8 if reserved in advance by emailing SF360@sffs.org. Must be 21 to attend.

SF360 Film+Club is presented by the San Francisco Film Society and Mezzanine, and is sponsored by SF Weekly.
