I know you guys aren't lawyers but I figure you guys would know more about this than me.
The comic book company I'm with wants to make a comic book mini series based on an old and very obscure video game from like 10 years ago, how difficult do you guys think it would be to get the rights (to make a comic book adaptation)? Would it be very expensive?
The company I'm with is basically trying to do the same thing Adam Warren did with Dirty Pair back in the day.

Thorough explanation of copyright in web comic form. Link is for page 26. Characters talk how laws relate to documentary film making, but it should give you an idea what you're getting yourself into when it comes to obtaining copyright clearance, trademark laws, fair use, what and when a material goes into public domain, etc.
Depends what the rights holder(s) ask. Or alternative gauge for you and your company is, can you afford to hire a lawyer.
