New in town

Hi,

A bit too late for me to want to make a career of any sort in animation, so I do it just for fun - but there's such a lot of satisfaction in making these little pieces of "life" - and it's nice if other people can see them!

There's some realy impressive stuff on this site, some really talented people, so I'm a bit nervous about showing my stuff - but then one of the good things about animation is that there are a lot of different approaches that can work (anyway that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!)

My films are at http://www.stoneagefilms.com - and I'd really welcome comments - of any kind! :)

Hey Steve,
I checked out "Art Works" I love the style. Pretty funny too. I like the simple, classic style humor you used. I'll be watching the others soon- But I'm at work right now- so I gotta wait til later

Nice work!

Hey Stoneage...

I'm in eggzackly the same boat. Took this up for kicks a few years ago to express some ideas I'd had for years about cartoon stories. Having a great time with it.

Welcome to the forum. I'm glad to know somebody else is in the same situation as I am. I teach high school, which sometimes gives me time for the animation, and sometimes doesn't, but it's a good, consistent, benefits included gig, so I'm stickin' to it for now.

(I went to school with a Mike Parker... you're not likely him, though, on the right coast)

Probably not...although I went to high school with another Mike Parker...He'd always get called down to the office. But I'd use it as an excuse to get out of class.

I like the cartoons and the way you animate, too, by the way...

Thanks for taking the time to look - and give me some (encouraging!) feedback.

I like the stuff on both your sites - I might be asking for some tips on lip-sync!

Rupert - Interesting about going back to pencil and paper - I first started the drawings for Dino-Sore 25 years ago with pencil and paper - then real life started using up all my time (wife, daughter etc!) so I never finished them. I found the drawings (around 2,000 of them) in the attic last year and re-did the whole thing in Flash using a tablet. I still prefer a pencil and paper I think.

Great trick, Mike. I once got a kid in big trouble over a name thing after writing up a referral (nnnooooo! I'm part of the system!!) for some over the top behavior that she never woulda done. It was her same name counterpart who was the outlaw.

It's a kick watching kids try to get away with the same crap I did or thought of doing...

Stoneage: So are you now drawing on a disk or using the tablet? I wound up making my own disk, which I love working with. I tried doing my cleanups in the computer, but still find the pencil faster, and I love using the disk. Haven't drawn a thing for my cartoon since school started, though...

Still sticking with the tablet - and still working on ideas for the next film

Did a bit of teaching myself a while ago (Art and Photography) in a secondary school (11-16) year olds - is that a High School in your part of the world? - looking back it wasn't too bad - not sure I enjoyed it then though!

I am at a high school. Did a brief (1 semester) at a middle school some years ago. Actually it was the middle school I had attended during some of my darker years, so I got a chance to thank and make ammends to a few teachers. Turned out I had applied TP one night to a car that I thought belonged to my English teacher, but that actually belonged to some unknown other person.

This is my ninth year teaching, and the first one where I even sorta feel like I know what to do. It helps that I'm back to teaching English, which turns out to be what I'm better at teaching. Who knows what they'll do with me next year. Maybe back to Multimedia.

Great gags!

Pat Hacker, Visit Scooter's World.

Thanks Pat - pretty impressed with Scooters World!

Thanks to you guys for your positive comments - amazing how re-vitalising a few kind words can be - so I'm off to start on my next film (just a few minor details to work out - like plot, characters, design, etc)
