Seems like a lot of horror and sci-fi films got buzzed this week on the Net. There's one from a certain Oscar-winning writer that I think has the potential to be a big hit. Speaking of Oscars, the trailer for Jim Sheridan's remake of BROTHERS, starring Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal, leaked on the web this week and has since disappeared. Don’t know why the studio would want to hold back on it, it looks great. If you saw it you know. Now onto trailers you can see.
Getting Buzzed
10) Bull (July 17)
Trailer
I see a lot of trailers for low budget, no-star indie films, but rarely do they impress me. This one piqued my interest because the trailer hints at a mysterious plot and, more importantly, the acting seems solid. You don't need stars to tell a good story, but you need good actors to make a great film. Looking forward to seeing where this one falls.
9) Evangelion 1.0 (July 17)
Trailer
FUNimation is bringing this reboot of the NEON GENESIS EVANGELION anime series to the big screen for a limited release. Unfortunately I haven't seen the original series, but it has its fans for sure. It's currently the 4th highest grossing anime film in Japanese history. While success doesn't mean quality, it does make one interested in the hype.
8) Planet 51 (Nov. 20)
Trailer
I thought the first trailer for this indie CG feature looked promising. That one focused on the inhabitants of a far off world reacting to the landing of humans. The new trailer flips the script. There are some solid gags in this one. Very promising.
7) Flame & Citron (July 31)
Trailer
This Danish/German co-production follows two fighters in the Holger Danske World War II resistance group. Stars CASINO ROYALE baddie Mads Mikkelsen. The early word has been very solid.
6) Thirst (July 31)
Trailer
Some luke warm reviews had dampened my anticipation for Chan-wook Park's latest, but the new trailer was ignited my interest again. This twisted vampire tale look provocative to say the least.
5) Giallo (TBA)
Trailer
Oscar winner Adrian Brody stars in Dario Argento's latest bloody thriller. The official trailer lays out the plot — a serial killer dubbed Yellow is preying on beautiful woman to mutilate them. Brody's Inspector Enzo Avolfi teams with the sister of a girl who might have been taken by the killer to solve the case.
4) Taxidermia (Aug. 14)
Trailer
I've watched the trailer, but I have not clue what this strange film is about. But that doesn't mean I don't want to see it. The tagline tells us — Three stories. Three generations. Three men. One bizarre and shocking universe.
3) District 9 (Aug. 14)
Trailer
With the new trailer for this alien invasion flick, I just wanted to see it now. Looks amazing.
2) Big Fan (Aug. 28)
Trailer
Comedian Patton Oswalt, who voice Remy in RATATOUILLE, plays an obsessed New York Giants fan that gets beat up by his favorite player. Who will he react? Co-stars Kevin Corrigan and Michael Rapaport, Looks great.
1) Jennifer's Body (Sept. 18)
Trailer
R-rated Trailer
Ever since the film was first announced I wanted to see it. Written by Oscar-winning JUNO writer Diablo Cody. Directed by GIRLFIGHT director Karyn Kusama. Starring BIG LOVE's Amanda Seyfried (my cousin's ex-girlfriend, no seriously for real) and Megan Fox. Story: a cheerleader is possessed by a demon and her plain Jane friends must stop her from killing all the boys in town, while searching out the Satanist metal band that brought the demon down on her friend.
