The National Film Board of Canada boasts 4 short films in competition, including Torill Kove’s ‘Maybe Elephants’ and Michèle Lemieux’s latest pinscreen effort, ‘Le tableau,’ alongside ‘Miserable Miracle’ and ‘Corpus and the Wandering,’ as well as a tribute to Portuguese animation with a program of films by Regina Pessoa; Annecy 2024 runs June 9-15.
Four National Film Board of Canada animated shorts are headed to the festival, with the Oscar-winning animator’s latest, along with Michèle Lemieux’s pinscreen film, ‘Le tableau (The Painting)’ among the films selected for the official short film competition.
Ryo Orikasa’s animated short, inspired by Henri Michaux’s book of poetry and drawings, explores the limits of language and perception; accolades include ‘Grand Prize for Short Animation’ at OIAF 2023.
The award-winning ‘Datum Point’ director returns to the Ottawa festival with his latest experimental film, produced by Miyu Productions, the NFB, and New Deer, screening in Short Competition 5; OIAF 2023 runs September 20-24.
