It’s Time To Get Involved With AWN’s MIPTV Special Newsletters!

Creepschool Tops 2003 MIPCOM Jr. Screenings

Alphanims CREEPSCHOOL ended up on top of the busy MIPCOM Junior Screenings October 8-9, 2003 in Cannes. The animated series, which the French studio produced with German EM.TV and Happy Life Animation (Sweden), was the most screened show by broadcasters from around the world. The screenings themselves broke all viewing records since Juniors launch in 1996. Program buyers made a total of 13,815 screenings, a 15% increase over the previous year and broke the old record of 12,572 viewings set in 2000.

MIPCOM News: Antefilms International Announces Its New Line Up

Antefilms Production will be launching two new series, as well as its other successfully series, at booth 24.05 at this years MIPCOM. This announcement comes on the heals of Antefilms announcement that it has purchased France Animation, which produces LITTLE VAMPIRE, SPACE LUNIES, and DR. DOG.

CreepSchool Tops Screenings at Record Setting MIPCOM Jr

With growing numbers of buyers, sellers and programs, MIPCOM Jr 2003s screenings (October 8 9) broke all viewing records since the shows launch in 1996. A total of 13,815 individual screenings were carried out by program buyers, a 15% increase compared with 12,052 last year. Previously, the highest number of screenings took place at MIPCOM Jr 2000 with 12,572 viewings.

Marathon Makes Marketing Moves At MIPCOM

With a striking decrease in marketing dollars flowing into this years MIPCOM, French production firm Marathon is emerging as a clearly visible presence at this years event. Unlike previous years, companies are sponsoring less parties and program-advertising signage plastered around the city of Cannes is thin. However, Marathon has stepped forward with mucho marketing dollars sponsoring the official market tote bag with a MARTIN MYSTERY theme for MIPCOM Jr.

MIPCOM Breaks Up The Week With New Dates

MIPCOM, the biggest international TV trade show in Cannes, will run from Friday through Tuesday, October 10-14, 2003 while the 11th kids programming mini-market, MIPCOM Junior, Youth Programs Screenings, will run October 8-9 at the Hotel Martinez. The shows normally run Saturday through Friday. This change is due to the unavailability of the convention center, the Palais des Festival, together with public holidays.

Banjax Fires Up Mipcom With Four New Shows

Banjax, a new digital animation company based in Belfast and London, will be at MIPCOM Jr. and MIPCOM with four new animated projects: GENE-FUSION, SICK AND FAMOUS, GNARPH and THINGIES. GENE FUSION (26 x 22 minutes) is set in an authoritarian future society where mutant creatures, called Fusimals, battle a spectacular gladiatorial road show owned and run by the World Fusing Federation. The series is based on a comic book created by U.S. Publisher/IP House Beckett Entertainment. SICK AND FAMOUS (26 x 22 minutes) is a comedy about a series broadcast from an exclusive rehab clinic.

Egmont Imagination Attends Mipcom Despite Company Restructuring

Although Egmont Imagination is substantially diminishing its production and development infrastructure while at the same time pursuing the sale of the companys assets, they will be at MIPCOM with a full slate of programs. Tom van Waveren, president of Egmont, said, "While Egmont Imagination no longer fits within the Egmont Groups strategy, our companys distribution structure remains in place for the foreseeable future as options are being considered.

Saban Becomes SIP Before Journey To Mipcom

Effective October 1, 2002, animation studio Saban International Paris is changing its name to SIP Animation. The newly named company will be at MIPCOM to present its latest animated series W.I.T.C.H., adapted from a popular comic book series. W.I.T.C.H. is an action series combining epic adventure and comedy, magic and realism through the adventures of five young heroines gifted with magic powers, designated to maintain the natural order of the universe while at the same time coping with the daily trials and tribulations of teenage life.

Sarbakan Takes Sleepwalking Snoozleberg To Mipcom

Quebec, Canada-based Sarbakan, a provider of animated content for the Internet and television, is taking its popular Internet-based game GOODNIGHT MR. SNOOZLEBERG to MIPCOM in the form of a 65 x 5-minute animated series. Mr. Snoozleberg is an important diplomat who also happens to be an incurable sleepwalker. So he must dodge all kinds of obstacles while he sleepwalks in order to make it back to bed so he can perform his diplomatic duties the next morning. The Mr. Snoozleberg online Flash-animated game is available at www.sarbakan.com. Sarbakan will be at Mipcom booth # C1.05.

Channel Zero Sets Up SoSophie At Mipcom

Los Angeles-based entertainment company channelzero will be attending MIPCOM with the pilot episode of their animated series SOSOPHIE. The short entitled "Dead Dog Double-Dare," is a co-production between channelzero, Atomic Cartoons, SMEC Media & Entertainment and Hacienda Post. SOSOPHIE is an action series that is described by its creators as THE SIMPSONS meets THE DUKES OF HAZARD. SOSOPHIE debuted at NATPE in January 2002.

New From Nelvana For Mipcom 2002

At this year's MIPCOM, Nelvana will launch the preschool series LITTLE CRITTER, a 40 x 12-minute animated program featuring characters and stories culled from the collection of children's books written and illustrated by Mercer Mayer. Another new animated property based on a kid's book is JACOB TWO-TWO, a 26 x 30-minute animated series based on the Canadian best seller by Mordecai Richler.

Mipcom Gets A Dose Of Atomic

Atomic Cartoons will be in attendance at this year's Mipcom, showcasing a bevy of shows including DENNIS THE DRAGON, CONEY ISLAND CARNEYS, GOAL!, and DIRTY LIL BASTER. And in other Atomic news, ATOMIC BETTY, the studio's co-production with Film Roman, has picked up a distributor. Toronto-based independent production company Breakthrough Films will act as the series' international distributors with Breakthrough's Ira Levy and Nghia Nguyen on board as executive producers and Kevin Gillis as producer.

MIPCOM Wrap-Up

According to organizer Reed Midem, MIPCOM concluded its 2001 run with a grand total of 1244 exhibiting companies, up nearly 5% from the previous year. Although attendance was down almost 15% from last year, the optimistic attitude of the participants, despite the troubling world events, made this years MIPCOM a success. As MIPCOMs Personality of the Year, MTV CEO Tom Freston stated, TV will bounce back. MIPCOM Junior saw encouraging signs for the international childrens programming business.

Molly Races To Mipcom

Sav! The World Productions brings its latest animated program to MIPCOM with MOLLY, STAR-RACER. Described by the creators as Japanimation meets European 3D, MOLLY is an explosive mix of comedy and epic racing scenes in 3D CGI animation. Decode Brings Ollie To Mipcom

Decode Entertainment has acquired worldwide distribution rights to OLLIE, a digitally animated 13 x 21 series targeted at kids aged 7 to 11. The show has already been sold to Teletoon in Canada and is set to premiere on that channel in fall 2002. Episodes will be available for the international market at MIPCOM 2001.
