The director of Japan’s biggest box office hit of the year greets fans at the Los Angeles Laemmle Music Hall on Saturday night, speaking about his creative process and the inspirations behind his characters and their stories.
Director Makoto Shinkai’s hit anime feature has earned $196 million at the Japanese box office, passing Studio Ghibli’s ‘Princess Mononoke’ to become the third-highest-grossing film of all time.
Japan’s highest-grossing film of 2016 will screen December 2-8 at the Laemmle Music Hall in Los Angeles, to be followed by an official North American wide theatrical release planned for early 2017.
Running Feb. 26-March 20, animated feature slate includes special preview screenings of Funimation’s ‘The Boy and The Beast’ and Mark Osborne’s ‘The Little Prince.’
