Animatrix: Beyond - real 3D models?

By SONB | Friday, January 6, 2006 at 7:02am

Hi, I'm new here!

First of all, I want to say that this forum is the best animation related forum I've ever been on. Thanx a lot for it, guys :) !

And here is my question about Animatrix Beyond: there are scenes, which look like they were made of 3D models (buildings, rooms, a corridor). Is it really so or are all these objects just 2D planes composed in a program like After Effects?

I'm sure alot of 3D with toon shaders was involved... no idea what particular programs, maybe maya and after effects. That's my guess.

is beyond the one with the girl that loses her cat?

i dunno to me that looks like 2d planes made to look 3d and clever camera moves,i think the only thing that was 3d cell shaded was that big truck thing near the end.

but not saying i know for sure, those japanese are crazy, they have godlike powers.

Oh, thanx a lot for your replies!

NOOB! I think you're right. Those planes were set pretty smart in the scene. Yesterday I tried to figure out, how they built the scene with the balcony. Damn...
Has anybody seen the making of the Animatrix? Are the makers talking about technical stuff or more about the story and characters of the film?
