Tobey Maguire has signed onto Fox's LIFE OF PI feature, reports Variety. The actor will play an interviewer who chats with the adult version of the lead character. Based on Yann Martel's bestseller, the story follows a boy who gets stranded on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger, hyena, zebra and orangutan. Maguire joins newcomer Suraj Sharma, Gerard Depardieu, Adil Hussain, Tabu and Irrfan Khan.

Ang Lee, who also directed Maguire in THE ICE STORM and RIDE WITH THE DEVIL, is the helmer. David Magee adapted the script. Gil Netter and David Womark are the producers.

The 3-D film is set to hit theaters on Dec. 14, 2012.
