Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation Gets Underway

The fourth edition of the Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation kicked off Monday, May 10 with a full schedule of events held both online and on-site. Through meetings, round tables, workshops, conferences and presentations, the Quirino Awards brings together the best animation projects in Ibero-America.

This year's edition concludes on May 29 with an on-site ceremony to announcing the winners in the nine Quirino Award categories: Feature Film, Series, Short Film, School Short Film, Commissioned Work, Video Game Animation, Sound Design and Original Music, Visual Development and Animation Design.

Ibero-American animation brings the finalists for Best Short Film and Best School Short Film home to viewers via streaming partners Retina Latina (Latin America and the Caribbean) and Filmin (Spain and Portugal). The shorts will be available online through May 23 – they include:

  • Elo by Alexandra Ramires (Portugal)
  • Homeless Home by Alberto Vázquez (Spain)
  • Roberto by Carmen Córdoba González (Spain)
  • La Bestia, co-directed by Ram Tamez (Mexico), Alfredo Gerard Kuttikatt & Marlijn Van Nuenen
  • Memories for Sale by Manuel Lopez (Costa Rica)
  • Le retour des vagues, co-directed by Alejandra Guevara Cervera (Mexico), Manon Cansell, Edward Kurchevsky, Francisco Moutinho de Magalhães (Portugal) & Hortense Mariano
