Grammy's Toon Tunes
The U.S. Recording Academy's premiere recording awards, the Grammies, have
put out their list of nominees and many toon-related tunes have made an
appearance. Nominations in the category Best Musical Album For Children
were: "The Adventures Of Elmo In Grounchland," "A Bug's Life Song-Along"
and Walt Disney's "Mannhein Steamroller Meet The Mouse." Best Spoken Word
Album For Children nominees include "A Bug's Life Read-Along" and Sesame
Street's "Let's Eat!" THE PRINCE OF EGYPT and TARZAN were included in the
Best Soundtrack Album category along with special effects flick THE MATRIX.
The nominations for composers of an original composition written
specifically for a motion picture, television or other visual media went to
Randy Newman's A BUG'S LIFE score and John William's THE PHANTOM MENACE
score. The Best Song Written For A Motion Picture, Television Or Other
Visual Media awards garnered nominations for Steven Schwartz and Babyface's
"The Prince of Egypt (When You Believe)" from THE PRINCE OF EGYPT, Randy
Newman's "The Time Of Your Life" from A BUG'S LIFE and Phil Collins'
"You'll Be In My Heart" from TARZAN. Best Short Form Video went to special
effects laden videos "All Is Full Of Love" by Bjork, directed by Chris
Cunningham and "Freak On A Leash" by Korn, directed by Jonathan Dayton,
Valerie Faris and Todd McFarlane. The event will be broadcast in the States
on February 23, 2000 at 8 pm Eastern Standard Time on CBS.
