DreamWorks Animation Drops ‘Forgotten Island’ Release Date
Universal Pictures will release DreamWorks Animation’s all-new original animated feature, Forgotten Island, on September 25, 2026, taking the place of the Untitled DreamWorks Animation film on the studio’s future release slate.
Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado will write and direct the film; Crawford’s longtime collaborator, Mark Swift, will produce. Most recently, the pair received Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations for the critically acclaimed film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Forgotten Island marks their third collaboration. The film will also mark the directorial debut for Mercado, who also served as co-director on Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and head of story for Crawford on The Croods: A New Age.
Plot and details of the film were not revealed. However, the studio describes the film as a broad party comedy adventure that transports the film's protagonists to a long forgotten, magical island rooted in Philippine mythology.
