Warner Bros. has nabbed the rights to Alien Legion, a sci-fi comic originally published by Marvel Comics, reports THR. Tim Miller (Deadpool, Terminator: Dark Fate) is set to direct, with Don Murphy and Susan Montford of Angry Films attached to produce alongside Aaron Ryder.

Legion was co-created by Carl Potts, Alan Zelenetz, and Frank Cirocco and has been described as “the French Legion in space,” focusing on an intergalactic, multi-species peacekeeping force within the government system Galactic Union. The franchise follows Sarigar, a snake-like captain whose species was formerly used as slave labor; the green-skinned brute Juger Grimrod; the four-armed medic Meirco; and the human Torie Montroc, who only serves to receive his inheritance.

An adaptation was originally in development at Dimension Films in the early 2000s, but a sufficient budget was never raised to get the project off the ground. Jerry Bruckheimer later had scripts written by David Benioff (Game of Thrones) and 3:10 to Yuma’s Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, but rights ultimately returned to co-creator Potts.

While the space opera franchise continues to build its cast and crew, Miller is hard at work on Best Served Cold, a revenge film starring Rebecca Ferguson.
