MONSTRA – Lisbon Animation Festival
Since 2000, MONSTRA – Lisbon Animation Festival’s main goals are to promote encounters between people with different artistic backgrounds by using the most basic and multidisciplinary language known, the one of animation. The festival, already considered a distinct event in Lisbon’s cultural scene, seeks to continue its reach to the international community while extending its presence throughout Portugal.
The MONSTRA 2024 program includes competitions, workshops, masterclasses, and retrospectives. This year, as part of a celebration of the legacy of Irish animation, the festival will include retrospectives dedicated to Aidan Hickey, Don Bluth, and the works of Jimmy T. Murakami, a Japanese American considered a pioneer of Ireland’s animation industry. Additionally, the event will feature a Cartoon Saloon showcase and special sessions dedicated to Brown Bag Films, Boulder Media, and other Irish animation studios.
MONSTRA – Lisbon Animation Festival will take place March 7 – 17 in Lisbon. For more information about the festival, visit the website.
